Pulled Pork
An easy pulled pork recipe made in the oven with delicious spices that will delight your taste buds.
Ingredients
- 1 kg boned and skinned pork shoulder
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar, rapadura sugar or coconut sugar
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon celery salt
- ½ tablespoon ground cumin
- ½ tablespoon ground coriander seed
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (mild)
- ½ tablespoon salt, finely ground
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Method
- Combine sugar and all the spices in a small bowl and mix well.
- Rub the spice mix over all sides of the pork shoulder. Cover, and pop in the fridge to marinate at least 1 hr, preferably overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 120°C.
- Place your pork shoulder on a roasting tray and cover with foil.
- Bake for 8-10 hours. Remove from the oven at rest for at least an hour, still covered.
- Unwrap the pork and using two forks, pull it apart until nicely shredded.
Serve with a coleslaw of choice (ours had a zesty vinaigrette over a creamy dressing), fresh corn on the cob and a smoky gravy.
Bread, wraps or rolls optional.
