Pulled Pork

An easy pulled pork recipe made in the oven with delicious spices that will delight your taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg boned and skinned pork shoulder
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar, rapadura sugar or coconut sugar
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon celery salt
  • ½ tablespoon ground cumin
  • ½ tablespoon ground coriander seed
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (mild)
  • ½ tablespoon salt, finely ground
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Method

  1. Combine sugar and all the spices in a small bowl and mix well.
  2. Rub the spice mix over all sides of the pork shoulder. Cover, and pop in the fridge to marinate at least 1 hr, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat your oven to 120°C.
  4. Place your pork shoulder on a roasting tray and cover with foil.
  5. Bake for 8-10 hours. Remove from the oven at rest for at least an hour, still covered.
  6. Unwrap the pork and using two forks, pull it apart until nicely shredded.

Serve with a coleslaw of choice (ours had a zesty vinaigrette over a creamy dressing), fresh corn on the cob and a smoky gravy.

Bread, wraps or rolls optional.
